  36. Believe it or not.. it is illegal to tape of tv shows. Yes everyone does 
  37. it.. which makes enforcing it impossible.. besides if it was enforced: A> 
  38. VCR sales and tape sales will plummet, B> The courts will be tied up. :) 
  39. It could fall under fair use if you have permission.. which is another 
  40. story. Typically its easier to pay 40 bucks or whatever to get the SW: 
  41. trilogy. Of course that doesn't give you owner ship of the rights, 
  42. trademarks , etc for the film ;). [ie. Lucasfilms/arts sued FASA for the 
  43. title of the RPG game called BattleDROIDS... FASA backed down and renamed 
  44. it to Battletech.

  46. Anyways... I imagine Uncle Lucas problely wouldn't care if you used the 
  47. explosion for private/experimental use.. I don't image anyone giving a 
  48. shit really... until you use it for commerial applications or if you 
  49. distribute the tape/animation. .. then you're in trouble ;). I remember 
  50. some animators talking "bits and Pieces" of video/sound from other 
  51. movies/songs/sources and getting approached at film festivals, etc with 
  52. stop and desist orders with a lawsuit.

  54. Anyways.. if you're just experimenting... don't sweat it.. but most 
  55. animators cannot use a digitized explosion from another source for their 
  56. applications.
